Michael Hartley, RMN, BSc(Psychol), CTA, UKCP Reg
I work within the ethical and professional standards of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I view psychotherapy as the provision of a formal and professional relationship where the client can beneficially explore difficult, and often painful, emotions and experiences. It is a process that seeks to help each person gain an increased capacity for choice, through which the individual becomes more autonomous and self-determined. This journey is different with each persons individuals needs.
In our session I will draw on my experience and expertise from psychiatry, psychology and the various methodologies of psychotherapy, depending on what will be of most help. However I believe that psychotherapy is relationship orientated rather than theory driven. Feeling able to talk freely and being listened to with empathic understanding is often the start of the process of change.
How I work
We can arrange an initial consultation which gives us the opportunity to meet and discuss your reasons for seeking psychotherapy and what you would like to gain from it. We can also discuss any questions and concerns you may have about the therapy process. This gives us a chance to get to meet each other before you make any commitment.
If you decide to have further sessions we can schedule another four sessions, at the end of which we can review how your therapy is going and discuss how to progress.
Sometimes 4 sessions are enough for people although long term psychotherapy may be necessary for more established problems at which point open ended therapy is available.
The initial consultation lasts 50 minutes. The cost of each session is £58. To arrange an initial consultation please call me on 07941 488851 or Email Me and then we can discuss what you need and how I may be of help.
